At KFC, we celebrate originality. Real ones bringing their authentic selves to work every day. No matter who you are, where you're from, or what makes you unique - there's a place for you at the Colonel's table.
We don't just welcome diversity, we celebrate it. Because when everyone feels free to be themselves, that's when the real magic happens. Different backgrounds, fresh perspectives, original ideas - that's what keeps us moving forward.
Everyone, from everywhere, belongs here. And that includes you.
Young people have always backed KFC, so now it’s our turn to back them. In fact, we’re fortunate to be one of the largest employers of young people in the country, which gives us daily insight into life for young people across the UK&I today.
Many young people who apply to work at KFC face massive challenges. Some have been living in care. Some are young carers themselves. Some didn’t have the best start in life. And some didn’t get on with school.
At KFC, we see first-hand the incredible potential that young people can bring to our teams. That’s why we launched our Hatch programme in 2022, which we now run in partnership with KFC Youth Foundation. It’s a free, 8-week employability programme for young people aged 18-24, which provides work experience, workshops, training, and a guaranteed interview for a role at KFC. In other words, a fair shot at getting that first job.
We’re incredibly proud of our Hatch programme and the difference it has made so far.
Since launch, Hatch has helped more than a thousand young people across Greater Manchester, the North West, the Midlands, the East of England, and Scotland.
In 2024, 1 in 3 young people were directly offered a job on the back of their work experience during the programme. 110 young people were offered a job at KFC and 101 took up the offer.
In 2024 alone, 519 young people were engaged in the Hatch programme. 90% were not currently in education, employment or training. 75% of these young people completed the programme, and just 3 months later 63% were in employment, education or training.
The real world impact that Hatch has on young people makes what we do even more worthwhile.
We've been that 'first job' for thousands of young people over the years. That comes with real responsibility, and we don't take it lightly.
That's why we created the KFC Youth Advisory Board with Youth Beyond Borders. Young voices aren't just heard here - they're leading the conversation on our business decisions and making sure we stay accessible and inclusive.
It's not about giving young people a token seat at the table. It's about recognizing that their insights drive real change. They know what works, what doesn't, and what needs fixing. So, we listen, we act, and we get to reshape how businesses actually engage with the next generation.
Want in on something real? Ok, you’re in. Welcome to The Kentucky Club - an inclusive members club created by KFC for 16-24-year-olds from all backgrounds and walks of life. It’s a place to learn real skills, pick up real confidence, and build the kind of real connections that could help you land that first job.
Our commitment to young people isn’t just talk. Which is why we partnered with the Bauer Academy to deliver top-quality industry training. No fluff, just the stuff that actually works. Our workshops cover the essentials – professional development, CV writing, interview skills, and how to nail that first impression. Plus, anyone who joins has the chance to explore media careers and sharpen their digital skills so they stand out from the crowd.
We're building the next generation of female leaders through our Female Leaders Programme. It mixes coaching, mentoring, and workshops that each help our women step up - in restaurant, at area level, and in our Restaurant Support Centre.
Our Rise Grants give female restaurant team members up to £3,000 for personal development. Not just work stuff - whatever helps you grow and flourish in all areas of your life.
We also partner with Women in Hospitality, Travel and Leisure (WiHTL) to give our team access to opportunities that elevate underrepresented talent. Plus, it helps us track how we're doing compared to other businesses and make changes that actually matter.
The proof is in our numbers. Our mean gender pay gap hit -2.72% in April 2024 - down 3.6% from last year. We now pay women equally to their male colleagues, which means we reached our equal pay target a year early. And we've maintained a 0% median pay gap since 2017.
We back all of our talent to reach their potential. The results speak for themselves.
Led by our people, for our people, our colleague networks aren't just groups that meet once a month. They're communities that are successfully driving real change, breaking down barriers, and making sure everyone belongs here. For the long run.
Our Kentucky Fried Pride network champions our LGBTQ+ community through celebration, education, and action. They develop training resources, advocate for inclusive processes, and make sure every LGBTQ+ team member has the support they need to thrive at KFC.
RADIO: Raising Awareness of Diversity, Inclusion and Origins, celebrates cultural moments throughout the year - from Ramadan to Diwali to Black History Month. The network creates conversations through podcasts and gives restaurants the tools to educate and support their diverse teams.
Our SEEN network showcases our neurodiverse community and their unique strengths. It’s about providing teams with practical support tools and work to remove barriers in our hiring processes so neurodiverse candidates get a fair shot.
