The heat is on.

Real change starts with real action.

Climate change and sustainability aren’t problems that one business can solve alone. But we're doing our bit, and we’re more than up for the challenge.

The one place we don’t want to make an impact

Yum! and our brands, including KFC, have spent the last 15 years thinking up ways to reduce our impact on the environ

In 2021, our commitment to a 46% reduction in Scope 3 emissions by 2030, and to reaching Net Zero by 2050 picked up official approval from the Science Based Targets initiative. But you know what? That didn’t feel fast enough. So we decided we can reach Net Zero by 2040 instead.

That’s why we’ve partnered with Arete Zero Carbon and the University of Liverpool’s Zero Carbon Research Initiative to map our carbon footprint and publish a new roadmap.

Our number one priority is to cut emissions across operations and supply chain, and we’re working with Zero Carbon Forum, WRAP Food and Drink Pact, and BRC Climate Action Roadmap to make it happen.

There’s a lot of work ahead. Good job our commitment to the environment is just as strong as our commitment to amazing chicken.

Our progress so far

Real cuts in restaurant carbon footprints

All of our directly operated restaurants now run on 100% green energy. It’s cut our Scope 1 and 2 footprint by 95% vs 2021. We're also rolling out energy management systems to our restaurants, refreshing furniture instead of replacing it, installing solar panels on restaurant roofs, and expanding EV charging points at our Drive Thrus.

Real reductions in deforestation

Soy feeds our chickens. But soy production often means more deforestation and more emissions. We've signed the UK Soy Manifesto, committing to 100% physically traceable, sustainable, deforestation-free soy across our supply chain. We're part of Efeca's Embedded Soy Working Group, working with Pilgrim's Europe and 2 Sisters to tackle this shared challenge.

Real increases in customer recycling rates

Waste? We hate it. Throwing things away wastes all the raw materials, energy, water and labour that went into making them. So, we've partnered with Biffa to design bespoke bins for our restaurants. Sometimes rubbish ideas are the best ones.
